The Key to Addressing Complex Challenges

Our challenges in business have become increasingly complex and we have faced them with more and more detail and activity. This works well for complicated but solvable challenges such as lean manufacturing, automation, miniaturization, and featurization.

But running faster with more and more detail is increasingly wrongheaded.  Today’s world is   increasingly volatile, uncertain, ambiguous and complex. Our challenges are complex, their causes are difficult to understand, and often there is no single right answer.

To address such challenges we need to powerfully frame them, recognize their patterns, and tap into insights deep within ourselves and throughout our organizations and networks.  And we must fully employ our intuitive mind.  As Albert Einstein observed, “The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind its faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift.”

Taking Action: How can you fully employ your intuitive mind?  Many famous scientists do this by walking in nature, taking a shower or relaxing.  You can also begin to employ your intuitive mind in real time by practicing real-time self awareness and spaciousness as I introduce in my next blog post on self-awareness.
